Pearl River WATER WATCH

MEASURING AND MAPPING THE HEALTH OF THE PEARL RIVER WATERSHED

Pearl Riverkeeper Water Stewards

The Pearl Riverkeeper "Water Stewards", our Bacteriological and Water Chemistry monitoring program, follows the protocols and procedures developed by Alabama Water Watch in 1992 and certified by EPA Region 4 in 1999 and 2010.  All of our Pearl Riverkeeper Water Stewards volunteers attend a one-day training course, are certified by Global Water Watch and follow a Quality Assurance/Quality Control program approved by the EPA. Our Water Stewards volunteers have collected over 400 water quality readings at 31 locations in the Pearl River watershed.

The map you see here reflects hundreds of hours of hard work and dedication by staff and volunteers, and we couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our funders and donor members like you. Please consider donating to help us keep a pulse on the Pearl River watershed.

MDEQ Data Mapping

Pearl Riverkeeper is also mapping the MDEQ Water Chemistry and Bacteriological Monitoring data from the Pearl River watershed.  This mapping includes:
  • Data downloaded from EPA STORET database for MDEQ's 4 fixed Mississippi Ambient Bridge Monitoring Stations and 6 fixed Fecal Monitoring Stations.  (MDEQ uploads its data to the EPA STORET database on an annual basis. Latest data available through 2019.)
  • Data from Pearl River Valley Water Supply District Bacteriological Monitoring program on the Ross Barnett Reservoir
  • Data from periodic MDEQ "Jackson Segment" Bacteriological Monitoring

This map allows users to view trends in Pearl River water quality over time.
